The Tale of Jamie and the Sweat Tank

Part 3 of 5 from the Duke's Opus:

The day before the race, Jamie received a GChat from Duke.

Duke: So our sweat suits wound up being $17
  not too bad
 Jamie: not at all
so the ticket for the nutcracker was $33

11:13 AM Jamie: so....if you want to write me a check for $16 it would be much appreciated.Duke: I shall write you a check now and bring it to you tonight

Jamie: you should fax it to me. I can deposit checks via picture on my phone. I wonder if it would accept a faxed check....
 Duke: we shall find out.
Jamie: you will have to fax both the front and the back.
11:15 AM this will be awesome if it works
Duke: ok. it will come in two separate faxes
 Jamie: right
me: be ready in 5 minutes for some fax action!

8 minutes of fax action later
11:23 AM Jamie: not gonna work
it came through super dark and illegible
 Duke: damn
11:24 AM I'll cancel sending side two
I blame this on my super old fax machine
11:25 AM Jamie: that would be pretty awesome if it had worked. Use a combination of a really old technology and a really new one to deposit a check. The past would have met the future. I'm sad now
I think they would have liked each other had they gotten the opportunity
11:26 AM Duke: yeah
I feel the check itself is the bridge between both the past and the future
11:27 AM checks were around when faxes were the rage
and while they are used far less now, they are still around when you can deposit them by sending a picture to your bank with your phone
  it could have been poetic.
It COULD have been poetic.  But somehow Jamie was going to need to pick up the shattered pieces of that dream lost and focus on the race.
